What counts as Mediterranean
A country with a coastline on the Mediterranean Sea.
This rule is ours. It is not borrowed from any standard, so it is a choice rather than an authority, and you may reasonably disagree with where it lands.
It excludes countries whose food is often called Mediterranean and which have no Mediterranean coast -- Portugal is the obvious one -- and it includes countries rarely described that way in a cookbook. No published definition of "Mediterranean cuisine" membership has been found to cite, so this page states its own rule rather than implying somebody else's.
