KEYBOARD MAKERS ============================================================================== WHAT THIS IS, AND WHAT IT IS NOT. The 72 makers of synthesizers, electronic and electric keyboards, organs and digital pianos this site is working through, extracted on 2026-09-11 rather than recalled. A name here means Wikipedia has an article filing it as such a maker. It does NOT mean a dating scheme exists, is published, or can be transcribed. WIKIPEDIA'S CATEGORIES MISS THE THREE BIGGEST NAMES ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This list is NOT a category sweep, because a category sweep is wrong here and wrong in a way that does not show. Wikipedia files these companies by what they mostly are, not by what they make: Korg -> Guitar effects manufacturing companies Roland -> Audio equipment manufacturers of Japan Casio -> electronic calculators, clock brands None of the three is in ANY synthesizer category. Nor are Hammond, Rhodes, Wurlitzer, Vox or Mellotron. A pool built from the categories alone would omit the three largest keyboard makers in the world and look complete while doing it. Widening the net does not fix it either: adding the general musical instrument category caught Korg and Roland and also caught Yamaha Drums and two acoustic piano firms. So the 14 names below were added DELIBERATELY and each was checked against Wikipedia first: Hammond organ Rhodes piano Wurlitzer Vox (company) Mellotron Hohner Rhodes piano ARP String Ensemble Elka Synthex Baldwin Piano Company Lowrey organ Allen Organ Company Rodgers Instruments Nord Electro Checked and NOT added, because no article exists under the name tried - listed so the gap is visible rather than silent: Gem (musical instruments) Conn Organ Viscount Organs SOURCES ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_synthesizer_manufacturers 52 names. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Synthesizer_manufacturing_companies and its per-country children. The parent is nearly empty - the names are in the children. THE OVERLAP WITH PIANOS (4 names) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ These build both. It matters: an acoustic piano serial and a digital keyboard serial from the same company are usually different schemes for different factories, and the acoustic side is on the piano page.
